I’m thrilled to announce that my latest artwork, titled “Guns’ Toast,” is now available to purchase. This piece pays homage to the rich traditions of British countryside life, capturing the essence of the shoot and the timeless camaraderie of a day spent in the fields. With a Land Rover Series 1 bonnet as its canvas and an evocative depiction of a feathered country gentleman, “Guns’ Toast” is more than just an artwork—it’s a tribute to the heritage of rural Britain and a celebration of its storied past.

“Guns’ Toast” is a captivating piece that merges the rugged history of a Land Rover Series 1 with the timeless elegance of countryside tradition. Painted on an original military Land Rover bonnet, this is no ordinary canvas. Bearing the unmistakable patina of decades of use and with its serial number still visible on the underside, this bonnet holds a unique piece of history. The layers of paint built up over the years—chipped and worn—echo the bonnet’s journey through time, exposed to the elements and etched by the landscape it once roamed. This beautifully aged surface, rich with character, forms the perfect backdrop for an artwork that celebrates the heritage of both vehicle and country life.

The details in “Guns’ Toast” come to life when viewed up close. What may appear simple at a glance reveals a complexity that can only be appreciated in person. The pheasant, dressed as a distinguished country gentleman, sits with a pint of beer by his side, his feathered wings wrapped in a meticulously rendered sheepskin-collared flying jacket. The texture of the wool collar looks so real, you almost feel the softness of the sheepskin. The hat he wears has been painted to reflect a true-to-life felt finish, adding depth and realism to the scene.

The level of detail extends further: the boots are so finely depicted that every crease and fold mirrors the wear and tear of genuine leather. The shotgun, positioned beside him, catches the light just right, with each metallic nuance creating a tactile, almost tangible quality. These elements are complemented by the timeworn surface of the bonnet itself—a backdrop that enhances the realism and grounds the entire piece in authenticity.

Only when standing before “Guns’ Toast” can one truly appreciate these nuances—the texture of the layers, the tactile feel of the painted metal, and the lifelike quality of each carefully crafted detail. It’s a piece that invites the viewer to linger, to look closer, and to experience the intersection of art and history.

“Guns’ Toast” is not just an artwork; it’s an embodiment of resilience, tradition, and the quiet, enduring spirit of the British countryside—all showcased on a historic, military Land Rover bonnet that carries its own stories.

“Guns’ Toast” is not merely a painting—it’s a tactile, multidimensional artwork. The final touches include some intricate metalwork (to be added to the bonnet), complementing the painted scene and bringing the entire piece to life. This blend of painted and physical elements ensures that the artwork is both visually and texturally engaging, making it a perfect centerpiece for anyone who values tradition and craftsmanship.

Material: Acrylic.

Size: Width 139cm narrowing to 81cm; Height: 95cm
